William Thomas Capps III, Bill, dad, Beepaw went home peacefully on April 11, 2018. He loved his family, and most importantly, he loved his Savior. He dearly loved and greatly missed his wife of 27 years, Patsy. Dad loved his kids unconditionally, even when we exasperated him, about which he often told us with a raised eyebrow or pointed finger. He loved his sons and daughters-in-law, accepting them into the family as his own. Beepaw simply adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, making it a priority to be at every event and showing a genuine interest in everyone’s well being. Beepaw always encouraged and never failed to mention how proud he was of each family member, and he was very thankful for his many friendships throughout his 88 years. As he neared the end of this life, he kept his sense of humor and was a kind patient to those who cared for him. In a letter to his wife and children, he wrote that he could not ask for more because he had a Christian family and that was his legacy.
Bill was born October 17, 1929 in Jacksonville, Illinois to William Thomas Capps, Jr, and Mary Jane Hatcher Capps. He passed away on April 11, 2018 in Dallas, Texas. During his life, Bill graduated from Highland Park High School in Dallas, Texas in 1947 and graduated from Southern Methodist University in 1951. He was an active church member, Mason, and Shriner. He was an avid reader, relished his participation in the Highland Park Golden Scots and enjoyed his fellowships with other alumni. Bill is survived by children and their spouses Louise and Charles Pastorino, Ruth Ann and Bob McCulloch, Ted and Kelly Capps, Sara and Mike Furlich, and Kevin and Jodie Hall; sister-in-law Kaye Hodges and husband Leland; grandchildren Meg Pastorino, Beth Pastorino Schnacker and husband Arland, Colin McCulloch and wife Kari, Tinsley Johnson and husband David, Ben Capps and Misty Maples, Josh Capps, Sally Furlich, Rachel Furlich, Elizabeth Furlich, Kody Hall, and Madison Hall; great-grandchildren Andrew McCulloch, Emma McCulloch, and Tennyn Capps. He is preceded in death by his wife Patsy Louise Capps, brother John Hatcher Capps, father William Thomas Capps, Jr. and mother Mary Jane Hatcher Capps.
The family would like to thank everyone for their thoughts and prayers, and a special thanks for the caregivers at Sage Oaks and Holy Savior Hospice. They truly made a difference in all of our lives and gave Bill honor, tender care, and sincere affection.
While we will miss our earthly fellowship with Beepaw, we have the assurance that comes with the hope of Christ that there is no longer pain or heart failure, that he has been glorified with Christ and that he knows the privilege of worshiping in heaven. He was greatly comforted by that assurance and knew that he would one day see us again.
Bill’s final wishes were not for a memorial service but for a simple announcement of his passing. Below are three nonprofit organizations he supported and which family members are involved. John 14:1-3
“Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. 2 My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you? 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come back and take you to be with me that you also may be where I am.
